I have not posted much about Erica’s progress with speech therapy. It takes her a lot of work to learn how to say new sounds and words. She is becoming much more understandable over the last little while. Just the other day though she started to say her name. My wife and I were quite shocked because we have not really worked on getting her to say her name. I do not usually share videos that I take of the kids but I wanted to make an exception this time because it is such a treat for me to hear my daughter say her name.

You might notice that she says “Erita” in stead of “Erica”. She is just starting to learn how to create the back K and G sounds.

Great job Erica! That’s a hard name – three parts to it. Good job! Keep working and you’ll just get better and better. You can see a couple video of how much better my little boy with Apraxia is doing after a couple of years. The first is when Hayden was three: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIwdhfqjxUE At the end, you can see how hard it was for him to say “dirty”. The next one is from one year ago when Hayden was four where he tries very hard and finally says “Open” instead of just “Ope”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEnb-A4Dhgg
The third one is just a few weeks ago and you can see that Hayden is talking in sentences now. About 20 seconds into the video, he tells me how he wants to make his ice cream cone nice and flat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7qx_9V4EBo

So you keep working girlie! I’m so glad you can say your name now! Good for you, and keep up the good work! <3 <3 <3

Just saw this Erica, and I am very impressed. You are working very hard, and it is paying off. Great Job. Keep it up.

She is working hard. Her ‘Erica’ has gotten better since this video. Her favourite word lately is coconut. She has also started to say go and egg. Both are hard sounds for her. Not bad for a girl who had an SLP tell us eight months ago that Erica was not stimulable for a K (and G since they are the same sounds only voiced differently).
